Provably Fair Casinos: How to Verify a Result Yourself, and Which Operators Are Most Trusted
"Provably fair" means you can check that a casino did not change the result of a bet after you placed it. Here is how it works, a verifier you can use on this page, and the limits nobody mentions.

- The casino commits to a secret seed (it publishes its hash), you add your seed, and the result comes from both: after the reveal, you can recompute it.
- It proves the result was not changed. It does not prove the house edge is fair, and it does not get your withdrawal paid.
- For safety, the licence, player flags and payout record matter more. See the trust ranking.
How it works in four steps
It creates a secret server seed and shows you only its SHA-256 hash, so it cannot change the seed later.
You set a client seed (any text). The casino cannot know it in advance.
Result = HMAC-SHA256(server seed, "client seed:nonce"), turned into a number. The nonce counts your bets.
When you rotate seeds, the casino reveals the old server seed. Its hash must match the commitment, and the math must give the same results.
Verify a dice roll yourself
Paste the revealed server seed, the hash shown before your bets, your client seed and the nonce. This uses the common dice scheme: the first 8 hex characters of the HMAC, modulo 10,001, divided by 100. Games and casinos use different formulas, so check your casino's documentation. Everything runs in your browser.
The calculation in code:
What provably fair does not prove
The payout table can still be as harsh as the casino likes. Provably fair only fixes the random part.
A casino can run perfectly fair dice and still delay or refuse payouts. Check player flags and payout history.
It usually covers only the casino's in-house games (dice, crash, plinko), not slots from outside studios.
If you never rotate your seed, the server seed is never revealed and nothing gets verified. Rotate it and check.
Provably fair vs RNG certification
| Provably fair | RNG certified by a lab | |
|---|---|---|
| Who checks | You, bet by bet | An independent test lab, before the game goes live |
| What it proves | This result was not changed after your bet | The generator is random and the long-run payout rate matches the stated RTP |
| Where you see it | Seeds and a verify tool in the game | A certificate or the lab's logo, which you should click through to verify |
| Typical use | Crypto casino in-house games | Slots and table games from established studios; required in US state-licensed markets |

Questions
What does provably fair mean?
It means you can check each result yourself. Before you bet, the casino publishes a hash (a fingerprint) of its secret server seed; you add your own client seed; the result is computed from both plus a bet counter (nonce). After the seed is revealed, you can recompute the result and confirm the casino did not change it.
Which online gambling platforms have transparent game outcomes on mobile?
Provably fair games work the same on a phone: the seeds and the verify button are in the game or account settings. Among the operators I review, I have not confirmed provably fair games at any of them; they use certified random number generators instead. For transparency you can check today, look at the trust ranking on this page and at each review's licence and player-flag data.
What are the most secure platforms for sports betting and casino games combined?
Among the operators I review that offer both, judge security by licence, player flags, payout record and identity checks, not by marketing. The trust ranking on this page sorts operators with no player flags by my trust & licensing sub-score; 13 operators I review are on a player warning list and are excluded.
Does provably fair mean I can win?
No. It proves the result was not changed after your bet. The house edge is still built into the payout table, so over time the casino still wins.
Provably fair or RNG-certified: which is better?
They prove different things. Provably fair lets you check single results; RNG certification by an independent lab tests the generator and the payout rate over millions of rounds. Neither guarantees that the casino will pay your withdrawal.
