Kempton Park Tips: A couple of picks for Friday’s card

On Friday afternoon, Kempton Park will be the site of a competitive racing card consisting of seven races, and I have a couple of recommendations for the event.

I used the method of elimination to narrow it down to the two horses that are most likely to win the three-mile handicap chase (135-0) at three o’clock.

On his comeback after a layoff of 483 days, God of War could be pretty well handicapped off position 122, but I have no problem going up against him regardless of this fact. The same can be said about Major Dundee, who was routed in his most recent race, and Jeremy Pass, who hasn’t been victorious over a single competitor in his most recent three races.

Although it wouldn’t be a surprise if Killer Kane won, I get the impression that the handicapper has a firm hold on him, whereas Valsheda is simply not reliable enough to bet on.

Only Mumbo Jumbo and Gary Moore’s DORKING LAD remain, and after careful consideration, I’ve decided to go with the latter.

This year, the eight-year-old has shown the best form of his career, and I believe that it is well worth taking a chance on him running a distance of three miles for the very first time.

The very useful Caoilin Quinn takes a valuable 5lbs off the back of the selection, which only enhances his claims. The form of Moore, who has saddled 9/49 winners in the last 14 days, also enhances the selection’s chances of winning.

I have high hopes that the son of Sholokhov will have another successful run.

Just over an hour later, at 4.10, there’s a novices’ handicap chase over 2m2f for which Dan Skelton’s JAY JAY REILLY heads the betting.

Similarly to my first selection, the seven-year-old comes into this in arguably career-best form and faces four rivals who pretty much all have questions to answer.

Name In Lights has been off the track for 105 days after just one run this season where he was below par, while Quinta Do Mar, Any News and Herbiers all disappointed last time out.

Jay Jay Reilly may not be the best handicapped horse in the country, but I don’t think he’ll need to be to win this. He should at least go very close.
