!The return of the Champions League will take place on Tuesday evening with a match between two teams that are currently ranked fifth in their respective leagues. The match will take place between AC Milan and Tottenham.
Both teams advanced relatively easily through the group stage in the fall, and now they will feel they have a very winnable tie as they both aim to make it to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Since the beginning of the year, Milan’s play has not been very impressive, but they were able to keep themselves in the hunt for a top-four finish by picking up a significant victory against Torino on Monday evening.
On Saturday, Tottenham was humiliated by Leicester, where they suffered a 4-1 loss, with the team’s tendency towards inconsistency being on full display.
AC Milan vs Tottenham Betting Tips
Team news
Milan’s first-choice goalkeeper Mike Maignan is not quite ready to return after being absent since September due to a calf injury, meaning Ciprian Tatarusanu will continue between the sticks.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to the bench on Friday night after not playing this season but is unlikely to be thrust straight into the action.
Defender Fikayo Tomori and midfielder Ismael Bennacer are both rated at 50/50 to start Tuesday’s contest.
Like the Rossoneri, Spurs are also without their first-choice keeper with Hugo Lloris set to miss the next couple of months, meaning Fraser Forster will continue to deputise.
Cristian Romero was suspended for their game at Leicester on Saturday and he is set to replace Japhet Tanganga in defence, to start alongside Eric Dier and Ben Davies.
Midfield is an issue too with Rodrigo Bentancur ruled out for the season, and Yves Bissouma and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg also unavailable. Oliver Skipp and Pape Sarr are in contention to start.
Tottenham to win and both teams to score @ 4/1
This one is a tricky game to call with both teams largely out of form since the return from the World Cup break.
Spurs have won only three of their eight Premier League matches since the season’s resumption and have conceded 14 goals in that period with the 4-1 loss at Leicester denting their Champions League hopes for next season.
They are inconsistent in the extreme – against the champions Manchester City, they were excellent but were terrible at the Foxes.
Milan’s win against Torino on Friday came at a great time following a winless streak stretching to five games.
Their porous defence has been the biggest concern with 14 goals shipped in those five matches without a win.
Therefore, Spurs’ attack, stacked with talent, could easily get at Milan and they may look to launch counter-attacks to get behind the home team’s defence.
Milan have won only one of their last five at home in all competitions while Spurs’ record is just two losses from their last seven.
Harry Kane to score anytime @ 5/4
Kane continues to shine this season having scored 19 in 31 matches for Spurs with six coming in his last nine games.
His Champions League record this season is slightly below-par with only one goal in six but the England skipper will relish the chance to come up against a shaky defence.
He will also be ably backed up by the likes of Son Heung-min and former Serie A player Dejan Kulusevski.
Milan have also conceded four penalties in Serie A this season with only three teams conceding more so Kane could also be presented with an opportunity from 12 yards.
