The best places to go for jumps racing are Naas, Newbury, Uttoxeter, and Warwick. For all-weather racing, the best places to go are Lingfield and Wolverhampton in the evening.

One of our picks for this Saturday is a potentially overpriced horse that will be trained by Richard Fahey and run at Wolverhampton this evening.

Selections

  • Wolverhampton 7.30 – Buckshaw Village @ 11/1
  • Uttoxeter 1.00 – Park Hill Dancer @ 11/10
  • Naas 3.25 – Magic Daze @ 11/4

Tip 1

Dunstall Park is the setting for Saturday evening’s all-weather action and trainer Richard Fahey will be eager to see BUCKSHAW VILLAGE (11/1) getting back on track after a midwinter layoff.

The son of Birchwood showed plenty promise on turf despite racking up 11 runs without a win and he duly made a wining start on the synthetics when scoring in a Class 3 Lingfield contest back in August.

That was his first run after being gelded and appeared a promising effort. He lost his way in three starts afterwards, however, before coming back to form at Chelmsford in early December when a front-running third as Oisin Orr took over in the saddle for the first time.

That form has worked out quite well and from the same mark after a short hiatus, this four-year-old could be overpriced today. He’s on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder and looks some decent value to justify his spot.

Tip 2

Lots of jumps action in store this afternoon with some proper quality on offer. Early doors, Nicky Henderson could be set to sneak in a winner in the Uttoxeter opener with PARK HILL DANCER (11/10).

He won a bumper at Exeter on his debut last March and made his hurdles bow at Market Rasen (2m4½f, good to soft) in early December.

He was held in second by the odds-on favourite Chianti Classico that afternoon but that form reads well, as the Kim Bailey inmate easily defied a mark of 131 in a Wincanton handicap since and now boasts a perfect 3-3 record over hurdles with a Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival novice entry to boot.

There doesn’t appear to be anything of that ilk lurking here and he could be set to give 10lb claimer Sean O’Briain a maiden success under Rules for the Seven Barrows team.

Tip 3

Willie Mullins has defending champ Elimay and Dinoblue both going for glory in the Listed Opera Hat Mares Chase (3.25) at Naas this afternoon.

Champion jockey Paul Townend sticks with Cheltenham Festival winner Elimay, but she’s second-favourite to improving novice Dinoblue and has to concede her weight.

She also has to ship 8lb to Henry De Bromhead’s MAGIC DAZE (11/4) and perhaps she can strike a blow back for the Knockeen handler and Rachael Blackmore following Honeysuckle’s passing of the torch to State Man last weekend.

This Robcour-owned mare showed good form last season, winning twice either side of being outclassed in the Arkle at Cheltenham.

She had excuses for an odds-on defeat in her Clonmel comeback in October and has since run well in a handicap at Fairyhouse in December when she was only held by a vastly experienced rival in receipt of 20lb.

She is two years the junior of Elimay, rated just 3lb below her, and gets that 8lb from her today, ensuring she makes solid appeal to upset the champion trainer’s duo.
