What are the fighters saying?

Ahead of the fight, Conor Benn claimed: “This fight is for the legacy and was an opportunity I felt I couldn’t pass up”, and also mentioned how personal the fight will be, saying, “To me this fight is personal – it’s more than titles and rankings, this is unfinished business between our families.”

Whereas Chris Eubank Jr stated that this will be the biggest fight of his career, while also voicing how important the result would be for either fighter in establishing themselves and their own career: “If he can beat me, his name will be made, and he will never walk in his father’s shadow again.”

Who is Chris Eubank Jr?

Eubank Jr is a British fighter and son of legendary boxer Chris Eubank Sr. He has previously held the WBA interim middleweight title and the IBO super-middleweight title as well as the British middleweight title.

Eubank Jr’s record stands at 32-2, with an impressive 23 of those wins ending by knockout. Like his opponent, he fights out of the orthodox stance, but will have the slight height and reach advantage, standing at 5’11 with a five-inch reach advantage.

Last time out, Eubank Jr dominated Liam Williams, knocking him down four times throughout the course of the fight and achieving a unanimous decision win. This win increased his streak to six wins in a row, last losing in 2018 against George Groves, where the decision loss led to him losing the IBO super-middleweight title.

Who is Conor Benn?

Conor Benn is the current WBA continental welterweight champion, having won the title in 2018. Since then, he has impressively defended the belt seven times. If you hadn’t twigged already, Conor Benn is the son of famous boxer Nigel Benn, who held world titles across two divisions.

Benn’s record stands at 21-0, making him undefeated so far in his professional career. Benn has equally impressed with the number of knockouts he has produced, with 14 from 21 ending by knockout. That’s double the amount of stoppage wins to decision wins.

The step up in weight class may be more severe for Benn, who currently fights at welterweight. His last fight was in April this year and was a thrilling contest in which Benn dispatched his opponent, Chris van Heerden, in just the second round by technical knockout.
