14:15 – Doncaster – Future Benefits @ 13/8
Future Benefits looks like one to definitely consider in this handicap chase just under three miles with Rebecca Menzies’ six-year-old impressing of late.
He scored when racing as a novice at Newcastle in November, coming across the line just over two lengths clear of his nearest challenger.
He followed that up with a very creditable second place at Market Rasen the following month and now makes a return after two months away.
The John Wade-owned horse has won over this distance before, so the trip should not trouble him too much, and he appears to be the strongest of the seven runners.
Top Decision may put him under a little bit of pressure, having previously won at Doncaster, but two poor runs since his seasonal reappearance means he is on the back foot.
15:25 – Doncaster – Hullnback @ 2/13
Hullnback is without question the one to beat in the feature race of the day and has performed admirably in the build-up to this contest.
He won on debut at Chepstow last year in a bumper and followed that up with a fifth at Newbury in a Listed contest before an excellent second at Aintree in April, missing out on a Grade 2 victory by two lengths.
Fergal O’Brien’s six-year-old underwent wind surgery in the off-season, but he has come back looking stronger than ever.
A second place on his hurdle debut at Chepstow followed before a first win at Haydock in November.
He has been able to handle everything thrown at him in his short career so far and will be the pick of the bunch in a five-horse field.
16:33 – Doncaster – Maid On The Moon @ 5/1
The final race out of the seven scheduled at Doncaster is a mares’ hurdle, with Maid On The Moon set to impress.
She scored at Huntingdon in March and has placed a couple more times since, and the Alan King-trained mare could be one to look out for.
Queens Rock is another one who is well-fancied after winning at Southwell in November.
However, Nicky Henderson’s charge had a disappointing Boxing Day after only ending fourth at Wetherby, and there are more doubts following wind surgery.
She could be caught cold by Maid On The Moon, who is a solid and dependable runner.
